How Our White-Label WordPress Strategy Generated $2M in Sales
A white-label partner agency approached us with a simple yet powerful idea that one of their client’s had that wanted to get into the authentic memorabilia space.
They had passion and vision, but no e-commerce website, no targeted marketing strategy, and obviously zero conversion rate optimization.
Essentially, they had a concept with massive potential but no clear path to revenue.
Imagine one of your potential clients having an idea that could generate a significant amount of sales, but not knowing where to begin, let alone how to reach the right customers.
Without a well-crafted website, strategic ad campaigns, or effective email marketing automations, their vision was at risk of fading into just another “what could have been.”
Every missed opportunity meant potential sales slipping away into thin air.
We stepped in and transformed their vision into reality and here is exactly how we did that:
1. THE CUSTOMER AVATAR DISCOVERY SESSION
Before we designed or developed a single pixel, we first needed to figure out who their ideal customer was.
The Customer Avatar Discovery Session is something I take clients through to identify exactly what their ideal customer looks like and this helps us quickly learn what these visitors need to see and experience on the site to give you the best chance of conversions.
Customer Avatar Discovery Session
- With the customer avatar, we were able to use this document to drive their content marketing, SEO, paid traffic, brand positioning and copywriting. The Customer Avatar is truly the Swiss Army Knife of marketing tools.
- Get crystal clear on the 6 characteristics you’ll need to determine why your customer will buy and why they won’t.
- You will be able to bring your ideal customer to life so that you can tailor your marketing to address their goals, challenges and objections to the sale.
- Know exactly what your customer needs to see/read on your site to convert them.
With having this foundation and plan of attack, that is when we started to design and developed a WordPress/Woocommerce site for these customers.
At the end of the day, we don’t build sites for our clients, but for their ideal customers.
2. THE NEW WEBSITE
With the ideal customer in mind, this made designing and developing their so much easier because we were crystal clear on everything we needed to do to meet the needs of qualified visitors.
We did all of the standard best practices of modern design, mobile friendly, fast load times, compelling copywriting and all of the on-page SEO that was needed.
3. THE ADS
Now that we had a good looking and fast loading website that was mobile-first in mind, we now needed to purchase traffic.
Since we already had all of the ideal customers persona in place, this made creating ad campaigns, audience targeting and copywriting so much easier.
However, we knew that there was still going to be a learning phase and we tested and tested and tested. We never stop testing creative, copy, placements etc.
4. THE EMAIL AUTOMATIONS
According to the Direct Marketing Association, email marketing yields, on average, a 4,300% ROI for businesses in the United States.
For every $1 spent on email marketing, the average return on investment is $44!
Email marketing is critical to the health of all online businesses.
Email marketing is critical to the health of all digital marketing campaigns because it is the number one marketing channel in terms of ROI.
It establishes trust while generating and recovering a substantial amount of revenue, automatically.
Since we were spending the clients money on ads, we needed a way to make sure we protected every single dollar we put into their marketing machine.
Here is how we did that…
First we setup an exit-intent offer for visitors that were intending to leavee the site without making a purchase.
We offered them a 15% coupon code for their first purchase on the site and all they needed to do was give us their first name and email.
This is where our email automations came into play and made this client money while they slept.
Here are all of the automations that generated them a significant of revenue, automatically:
- Welcome Automation – This email automation were sent to people who take advantage of the first purchase discount exit-intent offer. This is where the relationship with your customer truly begins. We use this automation to nurture these prospects by ensuring they understand why they should purchase from the client instead of a competitor, social proof (reviews), to create trust and promote the full product line to relevant customers. The goal here is to convert strangers into devoted customers.
- Cart Abandonment – On average, cart abandonment for eCommerce sites is 69%, meaning, that nearly 7 out of 10 potential buyers abandon their cart. We created an automated campaign that recovered lost sales from people who abandon their cart during the checkout process. Here is a blog post that breaks down every single email and with the strategy behind this email automation.
- Browse Abandonment – We created an automated campaign that will recover lost sales from people who browse specific products but don’t enter the checkout funnel. This is very similar to the cart abandonment, but typically works with past customers on the site.
- Win Back Automation – We automatically email customers who haven’t made a purchase on the site in a specific amount of time.
- Birthday Automation – We sent discounts to people on their birthday. This one is pretty straightforward.
- First Purchase Automation – We also limited-time offer to everyone who makes their first purchase on the site as well as follow up with video tutorials for new customers.
- Repeat Customers Automation – We created an offer to people who made multiple purchases on the site. This helps with rearding customers by recognizing their loyalty.
- Segmentation – We also segmented their list of subscribers so that emails go to the targeted audiences calibrated to maximize revenue and relevance.
5. CONVERSION RATE OPTIMIZATION
In today’s competitive digital landscape, it is critical to the health of any online business to take advantage of Conversion Rate Optimization strategies to start to learn what works, what doesn’t and why.
With the right conversion rate optimization strategy will help:
- Turn more of your website traffic into leads and most importantly, paying customers.
- Make decisions to increase conversions based on data and strategic testing, instead of opinions or guessing.
- Create long-term, systematic improvements to your conversion rate for months and years to come.
Without a conversion rate optimization solution in place, there is a greater potential of losing customers and traction to savvy competitors.
Our Methodology
We set goals, collect data, build a hypothesis and create detailed reports. This gives us a better understanding of the client’s online performance, customers and possible changes to make on the website in the future.
- Set goals
- Data collection (quantitative and qualitative)
- Build hypothesis
- Design based on hypothesis
- Scientific test of new design (A/B test)
- Implement test knowledge
- Back to step two
Testing should never end.
